Quilt blocks, soap and bread

This pile of fabric is slowly becoming these quilt block. 15 more to go.
More soap including some cinnamon and honey - smells delicious.
I am trying to get back in the habit of baking our bread using the Artisan Bread in 5 minutes a day method. I am also thinking of making a sourdough starter. Does anyone do this, have you got any advice?

The bread looks fabulous. Is it an easy recipe. Your quilt is looking good too, great for stashbusting too.

Your quilt blocks are looking great! Can't wait to see it all together. I love special soaps...they always make the bathroom smell so nice and they feel wonderful on the skin.

Hi Kate, I've been making sourdough for the past 4 months...at least I'm doing something crafty even if it is in my kitchen ;) Anyway, my experience so far is that sourdough takes lots of persistence to get your starter going and keeping it healthy. It's fussy, but if your starter is happy, you can get a delightfully fluffy loaf. If your starter is bad you'll make bricks. I've done both. Mostly I make a decent loaf, still not as light as I'd like but I'm still searching for the right method. Your bread in the picture looks delicious, what is it?

Oooh, your pictures are so beautiful. Looks like you're having lots of fun with the soap. And that bread! I love that recipe -- I need to get back to it too!

Hi Kate,

The only time I've made a sourdough starter I followed the instructions on this website....
http://www.io.com/~sjohn/sour.htm

It worked on the second go, I think. The bread was never really light but that probably had more to do with my lack of patience in the proving stages.

Good luck,
Jo

That´s a good link above :) Here in Finland we eat a lot of sour bread made from rye. It´s delicious! But it is not really light. I think most of the natural sour breads aren´t light.
