Ice Cream

I'll admit I was a little sceptical when we recieved and ice cream maker for Christmas. Seriously how many kitchen gadgets do you need? We used it for the first time yesterday and it is fantastic!
I made a basic vanilla ice cream and ate it with passionfruit on top. Next time I will make passionfruit ice cream. I think it is going to get a lot of use.
We have had Dad here for a few days building us a fence and helping us with little things that need doing around the house. The main thing is to keep Evie in as she moves fast. Dad put some gates at the front of the verandah so hopefully the verandah is nearly Evie proof.

  1. Your icecream looks delicious! It's very important to keep the fast, bouncy ones in!

  2. We were given one of these a few weeks ago and I too, was sceptical.
But isn't it easy and doesn't it taste great. Banana was a big hit here as was my favourite - vanilla with crushed up Violet Crumble pieces - yum!

  3. Hooray for icecream makers! I got one too, after substantial pre-Christmas hinting. I did a banana icecream last week, just chucked a couple of bananas that were in the freezer into the custard and my gawd it's bloody delish!

If you can't be bothered making a custard (which I can't, especially when it's hot) have you tried the cheats one? Beat 4 egg yolks with 125gms caster sugar till light and creamy, add 200mls cream and 200mls milk, splash of vanilla and beat to combine. Chill. Churn baby churn. Add whatever bits you like to that mix. No cooking needed!

it's great to read your mini review Kate as I am not into appliances at all really but have been thinking about one of these for a while now because the appeal of really good quality icecream is strong!! must look into it

  6. Yammy! I think that could be success in our family, too :) We have a soda stream machine and I´m very satisfied with that cause we drink quite a lot soft drinks.

  10. Haha -- you don't need a lot of kitchen gadgets, but when you get the urge for something that requires one, then you REALLY need it. I always forget to use my ice cream maker, but when I do I really love it. If you like blueberries, blueberry ice cream is fun to make.

Someone once gave me a cheese slicer and I thought...Oh, come on....but, man, is that thing ever cool!

  14. Oh we have an icecream machine and we love it! I admit we don't use it as much as we should but when we do, we wonder why its not on every day. We love vanilla, strawberry and mango.

And yes, you gotta keep those speedy racers in!
