Smock Tops

I think the girls will be wearing a lot of smock/tops/dresses this winter. I love the idea of making something that can be worn as a dress and as they grow it can be worn as a top or over shirts depending on the weather. Thanks to a friend Emma for this inspiration.
Here is my first one, sans buttons. I always get stressed about buttonholes and put them off. I'm telling myself I am really waiting to get a few more done and then I'll do all the buttonholes together. This is made from an Ikea pillowslip in hideously bright pink and red. I love it.
My Aunty Irene made these wonderful quilts for the girls when they were born and the girls just love them. The back of them is minkee dot and the girls love to read and play wrapped in them. It doesn't really matter to them that it has been hot all week.

Would you believe me if I told you that I have one of those dresses in the pipeline as we speak.

    How old are your girls?

    I'm going to need models.

  2. I'm so with you on the button holes. Dread them, with a passion. I have been stockpiling corduroy all summer to make winter smock tops and skirts. Oh, and the baby arrived on Monday, so Abby will be winging her way to Queensland just as soon as I can finish my sewing. These baby's who come early, I don't know!

  4. What wonderful dresses. I love the pillowcase fabric you used. I need to pay a visit to Ikea again soon. They always have great fabrics, cheap doona covers, etc, that can be used for other things too. I adore the quilts that your girls have too, so beautiful and obviously well loved too.
