Vogue 1549 and Pink Banana Shirt

I bought Vogue 1549 as soon as it came out last year. It has really interesting seam lines and an interesting shape. I searched for reviews last week and was surprised I could not find any. So I grabbed some wool (a wool blend from Spotlight) cut the pattern to my bust size and got sewing.

It's a surprisingly good fit and I really like the shape, it's almost a cape like shape. I think I made a mistake using this wool, it is quite thick and it was hard to get the pockets to sit right. If I could go back in time I would make the pockets from the lining fabric. 

The jacket it is really warm and will be perfect for standing on the sidelines at early morning football. 

If I find the time I'd love to try and make this with some quilted fabric, I have some Nani Iro gauze which would be perfect for it.  

I haven't made a button up shirt for myself for a couple of years so I pulled out the Archer pattern and got cutting. I used some Cotton and Steel lawn with pink bananas for my first one. Their lawn is beautiful to sew and has a nice drape and pink bananas!!

Margaret Sampson George Workshop

This is my first year in 13 that I don't have any children at home with me during the week and while I do miss having a little one chatting to me and being there during the day it also means I can get out and learn some new things. So when I heard Margaret Sampson George was coming to Cotton Rose last month I booked in straight away!

It is great being able to learn things over the internet, but there is nothing like seeing someone demonstrate a skill in real life and being able to ask questions and get immediate answers. 

I learn so much and was completely inspired by her use of fabrics, colour and shape.

This Dodecagon quilt is on my to do list!

I spent most of the day watching and learning, but I did manage to start on a bag which uses all the techniques that were talked about. 

There was also a little shopping (I could have bought everything in there!), I couldn't resist buying some of the Gertrude Made wool blend to make a shirt.

I think I did a good job only buying one piece.

Stamp Carving

I'm a little obsessed with stamp carving again. Now to stop carving and actually start printing on fabric. 

Another Jalie 2679

Not much more to say about Jalie 2679 that I haven't already said. I've made another two, one for Milly and one for Grace, and they have been worn a lot. I used soft shell from Spotlight. This feels completely different to the stuff I used for Eva. This is more like a knit on the outside, so I don't think it will be as water resistant, but it's still nice and warm on the inside. 

Foundation Piecing

My obsession with foundation paper piecing continues. 

This is a little carrot I made with some Heather Ross Kinder fabric. I love Electric Quilt for drawing out my paper piecing ideas. I upgraded to EQ8 as soon as it came out last year and I am so glad I did. The new version make much more sense to me and I find it quick and easy draw up my ideas, print them out and sew them up. I have no idea what I'm going to do with it. I'll just add to my wall of odd paper pieced blocks and a plan will come to me eventually.

I've also been playing around with the Sunrise Block that's in my book Scrappy and Happy Quilts. I love it in scrappy blues, but I'd like to try it in solids next with a grey background.
