I really love this block and I am so glad I bought these templates. There are so many different ways to choose fabrics and make secondary patterns. I'm sure I'll be making another one in the future.

Modern Quilts Exhibition
If you are anywhere near Bridgetown drop into Bridgetown Pottery-Restaurant. My quilts are hanging until the beginning of October and the food is amazing (I had the best potato soup I've ever, ever had the other day). Open Thurs-Sat.

Birch Skater Dress
I picked up some of the Birch Jersey last time I was in Spotlight. I'm not a huge fan of the jersey they normally sell in there, but I've read good things about the Birch jersey and thought I would try it.
It is a little more substantial than other jerseys, a bit thicker and warmer, so perfect for a winter dress.
I used the Kitschy Coo Skater Dress which I've made a few times before. It is a quick and easy sew. The fabric is lovely to sew, it does not roll at all so you can get away with not pinning. The fabric does 'crack' a bit when stretching but after ironing the neckline and sleeves it looks ok. These photos were taken before I washed the fabric. I have since washed it and it washed quite well. I'd sew with this again and I'll definitely have a look at what other Birch jerseys they have next time I'm in there.

Paper Pieced Mini Quilt
After making this little paper pieced tree quilt I thought about other simple things I could turn into paper pieced blocks. I started with the apple. It took a couple of goes until I got it right and then before I knew it I had designed an entire mini quilt. I definitely took inspiration for the designs and the colours used from 60s and 70s craft books and the story books I remember from my childhood. The fabrics are Kona Cottons and I used white aurifil for piecing and quilting.
I really loved every part of making this quilt. It's not often I want to remake a quilt as soon as I finish one, but I have plans for at least one more version of this and hopefully I can get time soon to write a pattern for it.
